Hibiscus:
You can find the hibiscus all over the world as different varieties can grow in different climates. One thing most species have in common is that the bush the flower grows on doesn\'t tolerate wind. The hibiscus is so popular and such a positive global symbol that the flower is used as a national symbol or appears on the flags of several countries: Korea, Hawaii and Malaysia.
Rose:
There are thousands of garden and wild varieties of roses all over the world. The cabbage rose comes into its own in the Provence sunshine as its rays and heat are essential to the beauty and fragrance enclosed by its full petals as well as the stems protected by long thorns.
Hibiscus:
The hibiscus was grown in Egypt and throughout South East Asia as a decorative plant and for food as some varieties produce edible fruit. The yellow leaves are actually edible. The seeds can be used in a range of drinks, dishes and remedies. The plant didn\'t appear in Europe until the 12th century when the Moors brought it to Spain with them. Its colours and signature fragrance gradually sprung up throughout the Western world in dozens of species. Some species of hibiscus are still used for medicine in most of Sub-Saharan Africa. It\'s little wonder that the hibiscus flower is called the "flower of eternity".
Rose:
The history of roses may have begun millions of years before the history of mankind, but it\'s certainly been more than a love story: it\'s a marriage made in heaven. Who even knows how many artworks and paintings feature roses: flags, songs, decorations of all kinds, poems and more. The rose is the ultimate symbol of positivity and the divine feminine! Roses have always been associated with a woman who inspires love, whether it be in their fragrance or beauty, in Omar Khayyam\'s Persian poems or Pierre de Ronsard\'s French verses, ancient Greek tales, medieval sagas or holy texts. This is one scent that doesn\'t leave you speechless!
Hibiscus:
People have been drawn to the fragrance and natural beauty of hibiscus for millennia. Its flower blooms on a shrub which can reach five metres high and five metres wide. Its signature shape comes from its asymmetry: the five petals forming its corolla have no axis of symmetry so they bring to mind a bouquet of flowers. There may be a wide variety of colours but the two most common species in Europe are Syrian hibiscus, which can be white, pink, purple, lilac or blue, and Chinese hibiscus which can be vermilion, orange or yellow.
Rose:
The rose has been the Queen of Flowers throughout the West and most of the East for thousands of years! You\'d think it first left its mark on the history of mankind when people first started to write literature, ancient songs and poems. But it\'s far older than that. Since we\'re talking botany, the first thing you think of is the rose that grows in the garden: the flower on a thorny plant that is famous for its overlapping petals. That\'s the domestic rose and there are thousands of species of it! Then there are its wilder or tamer five-petal sisters such as the hibiscus or rose of Sharon. Naturally, our fragrance puts the spotlight on a Grasse variety of rose: the cabbage rose or May rose. This type of rose has been set apart and grown in the best conditions for centuries to distil its full, highly-scented flowers into a real perfumery and aromatherapy gem: rose essence. It reaches peak maturity in May in the region... hence one of the Queen of Flowers\' many names!
Our fragrance experts from Grasse, the world perfumery capital, have made a floral statement with Rose and Hibiscus.
Rose gives off a natural freshness that goes perfectly with floral and musky Hibiscus. All that was left to do was for our master candle makers to delicately blend this aromatic creation into our wax to release its fine fragrance.
