Sandalwood, originating from Asia, particularly India and Indonesia, has been highly valued since the 15th century. However, its uses date back several millennia in Asian traditions, where it is appreciated for its aromatic properties.
Sandalwood comes from a small tree that grows between 5 and 12 meters tall. Its mature leaves are oval and consistently light green, while its numerous small flowers are straw-yellow in color.
Sandalwood, originally from India, is primarily cultivated in the plains of the Karnataka state. The region's tropical climate provides optimal conditions for the growth of this valuable tree. The warm, humid climate of Karnataka, with its high temperatures and regular rainfall, creates the perfect environment for the development of sandalwood, renowned for its exceptional aromatic and medicinal qualities. Karnataka sandalwood is highly sought after for its richness and depth, contributing to its international reputation.
