Originating from Indonesia, particularly from the island of Java, lemongrass has been known and used for centuries in the Caribbean, Africa, and India. Commonly known as the "Indian Verbena," it is renowned for its ability to repel insects.
Lemongrass, also known as Indian Verbena (Cymbopogon citratus), is a tropical herbaceous plant of the Poaceae family (grasses), cultivated for its stalks and leaves with aromatic qualities (tasting like lemon).
Lemongrass grows in tropical and subtropical regions, notably in several countries of Southeast Asia such as Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, China, and Vietnam. Some species of lemongrass are also found in Africa and the Caribbean.
