Verbena is an aromatic plant with a fresh, lemony fragrance, better known as fragrant or lemon verbena. Verbena is a perennial plant that can measure up to 1.5 meters in height. Verbena leaves are steam distilled to collect its essence. The very essence that made the Eaux de Cologne de Grasse famous.
Verbena has always been considered a divine flower that was used in sacred ceremonies in Greek and Roman times. Nowadays, lemon verbena is used in cooking to flavor dishes. Verbena is used infused and is appreciated for its soothing properties. Its essential oil is recognized for its repellent properties against mosquitoes.
Lemon verbena is native to South America, it was introduced to Europe at the end of the 18th century. This plant has been very successful in England when creating potpourri thanks to its fragrance that lasts over time. In France, it is first cultivated around Grasse for the creation of perfumed compositions.
